En mi entrada anterior hablé de mi colaboración en una antología de ilustraciones que se ha vendido en la Comic World de Seúl.
Cuando reciba algunos ejemplares, que será pronto, anunciaré aquísu precio y cómo conseguirlos.
Hoy comparto un fragmento de una de las ilustraciones que he presentado. En realidad la había comenzado hace varios meses, pero la dejé de lado por falta de tiempo.
Todo comenzó con este boceto.

In my last post, I spoke about my collaboration with other artists for  an illustration anthology that was sold in Comic World convention, in Seoul.
As soon as I receive some copies, I'll anounce here how to get them and how much they are, in case you are interested.
Today I'm sharing a fragment of one of the two illustration I drew for this book.
I started to work in it months ago, actually, but left it due to my lack of time.
The first step was this sketch.

Al empezar a pintar sobre él modifiqué muchas cosas: los faldones del abrigo, el tamaño de las manos y sobre todo, la cara, que no me convencía.
When painting on it, I  modified several things. I changed the coattails, the size of the hands and redid most the face, that I didn't like very much.

En esta parte del proceso ya se ve cómo cambió el rostro.
In this step you can already see how much the face changed.

Y aquí el resultado final. Cuando se agoten las antologías, mostraré la ilustración completa.
Después de entregar el dibujo me di cuenta de que a uno de los dedos de Risotto, el índice, le falta una falange...No he querido corregirlo después ya que en la antología se ha publicado con este fallo.

And there you have the final result. Only when the anthologies in my site shop will be sold out, I'll show you the full illustration.
After delivering this work I noticed one of Risotto's fingers, the index, lack of one phalange... I haven't correct it later, because it was published this way.

Fare lo sforzo.

Ha salido a la venta una antología de doujinshi de Risotto Nero que ya he encargado.
Hace algunos meses, las organizadoras del proyecto aceptaban solicitudes para colaborar. Las instrucciones, fechas, formato (con su correpondiente plantilla) etc., pueden leerse aún en este ENLACE.
Jugué con la idea de presentarme. Hubiera sido un sueño hecho realidad formar parte de un proyecto común con algunas de mis doujinkas japonesas favoritas. Pero dudo que me hubieran aceptado siendo extranjera y la comunicación habría sido difícil, puesto que no sé japonés y tendría que haber molestado a algunos amigos para que me hicieran de intérpretes y traductores.
Por otro lado, hace tiempo que no dibujo comic y ¡tengo tantísimo que mejorar en ese campo!
No he sido capaz aún de empezar ninguno de los muchos proyectos de doujinshis que tengo en mente desde el año pasado y llevo un par de meses con una nueva crisis que hace que nada de lo que dibujo estos días merezca la pena. (De ahí que no haya actualizado últimamente este blog.)
Sin duda tengo que esforzarme mucho más si quiero atreverme a hacerme ciertas ilusiones.

A Risotto doujinshi anthology is right now on sale and I ordered it. Months ago, the authors were recruting people to take part in the project. All instructions, deadlines, formats and other informations can  still be read in this LINK.

I played with the idea of collaborating. It could have been so great to be a part of a project with some of my favourite japanese fanartists implied in it! But I don't think they'd accepted a foreigner like me as a partner. Besides, the communication would have been rather difficult, since I can't Japanese. I should  have bothered some friends to translate everything.
On the other hand, I haven't drawn comic for a long time and I have too much to improve in order to be taken into consideration.

I already haven't been able  to start any of the doujinshi projects I have in mind since last year, even the easiest ones. And the worst thing is that right now, I'm on a crisis again.
Lately, I can't draw anything worth being shared. That's why so many time has passed since I last updated this blog.

I can't afford to dream in collaborating with japanese artists before making a bigger effort.

Libro e Ferie

El libro que comentaba en mi entrada anterior puede comprarse también directamente en la web de blurb. Pero al no pasar por mis manos, si lo encargas ahí no podré firmártelo.
He abierto también una sección de tienda en mi web. Ten en cuenta que los precios que indico ya incluyen gastos de envío.
Acabo de empezar mis vacaciones y quiero aprovechar, entre otras cosas, para dibujar. Pero el jueves me voy al norte del país y no podré actualizar  en más una semana. Me llevaré mi cuaderno por si encuentro hueco para algun boceto.
Hoy traigo un fragmento de un fanart de Risotto que empecé hace mucho y que retomo de cuando en cuando pero nunca termino.

My holidays started yesterday. That means that I'll have more time to draw. But in two days I'm leaving to the North, so I won't be able to update during the next seven days or so. Anyway, I'll take my sketchbook with me. 

There you have a fragment of a work in process. It's an old one.  I take it now and them, but never finish it...

 

Perché?

Alguna vez me han preguntado por qué tengo esa predilección por los asesinos de La Squadra.
Habiendo tantos y tan interesantes personajes en Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, ¿cómo han podido impactarme tanto unos secundarios de los que muchos fans ni siquiera se acuerdan?
¿Acaso hay siempre una razón para enamorarse?
Bueno, en esta caso hay algunas.
Dejando de lado su diseño, tan bueno y personal como todos los que Araki ha dado a sus personajes, el Equipo de Asesinos me gusta principalmente por que se trata de un grupo unido y bien coordinado con un objetivo común, pero donde cada miembro brilla con luz propia y tiene una personalidad y un aspecto distintivos.
Siento además debilidad por estos renegados, personajes malvados, rechazados por todos y que sólo se tienen así mismos. Son capaces de desafiar al hombre más peligroso de la mafia por ambición y orgullo. Este objetivo será la razón de su existencia: lo darán todo por alcanzar su meta.
Sin embargo, llevan impresa el aura de los perdedores. No sólo no lograrán (por muy poco) aquello a lo que aspiraron durante años, si no que todos ellos encontrarán una muerte terrible.
Este destino maldito da a los hombres de la Squadra una dimensión trágica que me resulta mucho más interesante que la de los héroes que consiguen la victoria.
Por último, aunque su caracter queda bien reflejado en el manga, exceptuando a Risotto, no sabemos nada de su pasado y eso abre una puerta enorme a la imaginación del lector. Es muy inspirador.

Sometimes, they ask me why do I like so much Squadra assassins.

You can find so many interesting characters in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, so why have these secondary characters made such a deep impression in me? There are fans who don't even remember them.

Should there be a reason for falling in love?

Well...there are some of them, actually.

I love their designs, of course. They are so good and unique as those Master Araki uses to give to most of his characters. Though, what I like most of this Assassin Team is that they are a very attached and coordinated group sharing a common target, but every member has his own personality and look and stands out on his own.

Besides, I have a weakness for renegades. Evil people rejected by everyone. Seven men who couldn't find their place and that only had themselves. They challenged the most powerful man in Mafia armed with their pride and ambition and this target became their only reason for living. They were ready to everything in order to reach this goal.

Nevertheless, they wore the losers's aura. They not only didn't got what they fought to get for years (they were close), but they found, all of them, terrible deaths.

This cursed destiny gives Squadra assassins a tragic dimension that I find far more interesting than the usual  victory obtained by heroes.

Finally, even if their personalities are defined well enough on the original manga, we don't know almost anything about them. We know a little about Risotto's past, but have no clue about his subordinates's lives. This opens a big door to our imagination; I find it very inspiring.

Han pasado cuatro meses desde que inauguré la web, y ¡ya la han visitado más de mil personas! Quizás pienses que esta cifra no es gran cosa, pero para mí es muy importante, ya que está centrada en unos personajes que no son especialmente populares, y no actualizo tanto como quisiera.
Tengo muchos proyectos, pero ¡me falta tanto tiempo!
Gracias por seguirme y te recuerdo, que toda sugerencia o petición será muy bien recibida.

Four months have passed since my site started and more than thousend people have visited it!. Maybe you don't find it very impressive, but I'm really satisfied: my site is centered in characters that aren't specially popular and I don't update as often as I should.

I've lot of ideas and projects, but I lack of time!!

Thank you very much for following me. I remember you that any idea, request or suggestion is always  very welcomed.

Mañana temprano tomaré un tren de alta velocidad hacia Sevilla, donde pasaré las vacaciones de Semana Santa con mis buenos amigos del Sur.
Llevaré mi cuaderno de bocetos por si encuentro hueco para dibujar algo. (En especial a mis asesinos, por supuesto).
Tanto si sois creyentes como no, os deseo una feliz Semana Santa. ¡Nos leemos dentro de unos días!.

Tomorrow morning, I'll take a high-speed train to Seville, where I'll spend my Easter holidays with some good friends.

I'll take my sketchbook, just in case I find a moment to draw something (specially my dear Assassini).

Processo artistico

Hoy, para variar, quería mostrar algunos de los distintos pasos por los que ha pasado la ilustración de Prosciutto que puede verse ahora en la página principal de la web. No pretendo dar lecciones a nadie, puesto que yo misma soy una simple aficionada que tiene demasiado que aprender, pero pienso que es divertido ver cómo un dibujo va tomando forma.

Today, as a change, I'd like to show you some "work in process" steps in one of my fanarts. Let's take my last Prosciutto illustration, that you can see finished in the welcome page of my site. I don't intend to act as a teacher, I myself am an amateur who has too much to learn. But I think it's funny to see how a work takes his final look.

Este es el boceto a lápiz. Mis dibujos suelen ser muy sucios. Este no lo he cambiado demasiado, he reducido un poco la cabeza y corregido la cadera. También he rehecho los brazos cuya pose no tenía muy clara.
Lo normal es que el resultado final termine no pareciéndose nada a la idea inicial. Siempre ando corrigiéndolo todo y cambiando de opinión.

This is the previous pencil sketch. My pencil drawings use to be rather dirty. In this case, I just modified some little details. I resized the head, that was a little to big,  made the hips narrower and chose a pose for the arms. Normaly, I'm correcting everything and changing my mind and the final result has anything to do with the first idea.

 

Una vez escaneado el boceto, lo abro en  el programa SAI y creo una capa transparente donde dibujo la línea con la brocha "pen". Utilizo una tableta Wacoom Bamboo.

After scanning the drawing, I opened it with the programm I use to paint, that is called SAI and I created a transparent layer where I drew the line with "pen" brush. I have a Wacoom Bamboo tablet.

Con el mismo programa, en otra capa también transparente, aplico los colores, que en este caso son planos. Suelo abrir una única capa para todo el coloreado. Las líneas del traje están trazadas en una capa diferente con baja opacidad para que el sombreado no impida que se vean.
Continúo el fanart con Photoshop. Introduzco la fuente con el nombre del personaje. He usado un degradado y la he bordeado con un trazo oscuro.

I opened a new transparent layer where I put all the color. I use to create a single layer for the whole coloring. This time I used plane colors only. Prosciutto's suit strips were traced in a different low opacity layer, this way, the shadowing didn't avoid them to be seen. 
I went on with the fanart, but now with Photoshop. I added the character's name. I applied a gradient and bordered the fonts with a dark line.

 

Por último utilizo una textura en tonos marrones y azules en una capa de "luz fuerte" con una opacidad del 18%. Copio la misma textura en otra capa de "color", esta vez al 25% de opacidad (borrándola en las zonas de la piel para que el efecto afecte sólo a la ropa) y por último utilizo una brocha con motivos de hojas en otra capa más, con una opacidad del 45% y que coloco sobre el fondo en blanco y bajo el dibujo.

Y este es el resultado. Todo el proceso me ha llevado unas tres horas. (Soy lenta)

Later, I took a texture in brown and blue tones and pasted it in a "strong light" layer with an opacity of 18%. I duplicated the texture in another "color" layer, now with an opacity of 25%. I deleted it in the skin areas, because I just wanted to get an effect on the clothes. For the background I created a new 45% opacity layer  where I've used a "leaves" brush. I put this layer on the blank background layer and under the line one.

And that's the final result. Everything took me around three hours. I'm rather slow.

Detalle de la cara. Le he dibujado unos labios más gruesos que de costumbre, pero pienso que así está mucho más sexy.
Detail of the face. I drew his lips thicker than usual, but I see him sexier this way.

Cuánto más lo miro más cosas veo que habría que corregir....Mejor no lo miro más.
I'm finding right now lots of things I should correct...Better I don't look at it anymore.

Due lavori in corso

Tengo ganas de actualizar la web y el blog, pero últimamente empiezo muchas cosas a la vez y no termino ninguna.
Entre otros dibujos, estoy trabajando ahora mismo en un par de Risottos. Uno  cerrará la serie "blanco y negro" que he dedicado a todos los componentes de la Squadra. Ya está casi listo. Parece mentira, pero es la primera vez que dibujo al líder en su pose característica.
Al otro no sé si le daré color o lo pintaré sólo en grises. Quiero hacer un experimento que ya veremos cómo queda. Lo mostraré aquí y en la web cuando esté terminado, pero ya he cambiado muchas cosas del boceto inicial, del que de todas maneras os enseño un fragmento para que veáis que no estoy parada.

I really feel like updating my new site and this blog, but I don't know why, lately, I'm working in several illustrations at the same time whitout finishing any of them.

Amongst these works in process, there are two Risottos. One of them will close the "Black and White series" that I've dedicated to every Squadra member. This one is almost done. It may be difficult to believe, but it's being my first time drawing the leader in his famous pose.

The second one is more experimental. I don't know if I'll get the effect I want to achieve. I'll show it anyway if I'm able to finish it. I'm not very sure if it will be colored or if I'll use grey scale only. There you have a part of the initial sketch, even if I've already changed lots of things.

 As you can see, I don't update so often as I used to do, but I don't stop drawing my assassini!
